What can you expect from your first meeting with your family lawyer at Fullers?

 February 2021 |  Patrick Reeve

You may or may not already have had a free consultation with us, but once you decide to instruct us, then seeing a solicitor for the first time about family matters can feel like a big step.

At Fullers we will do all that we can to make you feel at ease and to make your meeting as helpful to you as possible.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting will be carried out remotely over the telephone, by email, or via online conferencing such as Skype and Zoom.

We are on your side - our job is to act in your best interests and to provide you with the greatest service that we can.

As dedicated family lawyers – we believe that negotiation is usually the best way to solve family disputes, and we will not try to push you into conflict. Nor will we push you into starting off any process when right now you may just need more time to explore your options in confidence with the help of a professional.

However, when you need us to fight your corner we will do so robustly. There may be challenges to your safety or wellbeing, or those of your children. Or you may be facing a partner or former partner who is refusing to co-operate or hiding or disposing of assets. In these circumstances we will act promptly and firmly on your behalf.

We listen - although our lawyers are experienced and will have dealt with many similar cases, we never forget that you are an individual with all of the emotions that arise in a family breakdown. We will give you the time to explain things in your own way. What is important to you is important to us.

We will be totally honest with you. We will not hide any difficulties in your case, and if we think that a particular course of action is not the right one we will say so. You will decide how you want to proceed - but we believe that you should make your decisions with the benefit of frank and fearless advice.

We will be creative in coming up with solutions on your behalf. We see the law not as a straitjacket, but as a framework within which to help you achieve what you want.

We will be upfront about costs - and discuss what you can afford and what the best options for you are.

We will treat your information and instructions with complete confidentiality.

We will behave with integrity at all times in accordance with the Solicitors Code of Conduct.

Preparing for the meeting

Think in advance about what you want from the meeting. What would be a good outcome from the meeting for you?  Please tell us this at the start of the meeting.

It is often a good idea to write down some questions beforehand so that you do not forget to ask them in the meeting.

We may send you a questionnaire before the meeting - if we do, please complete it and return it in advance so that we have the basic details and can concentrate with you in the meeting on the most important matters.

Above all - don’t worry! We are here to help you in confidence. At Fullers we care, and we work to win.

We offer a free callback, which can be carried out remotely over the telephone, by email, or via online conferencing such as Skype and Zoom. You can book your callback here.
