One Couple - One Lawyer
The ‘One Couple, One Lawyer’ service encourages separating couples to work together to decide on how they will move forward with their lives after their divorce.
By appointing a joint Solicitor, a husband and wife are empowered to reach their own agreement on children and financial matters. The opposite is true if you attend Court, with separate legal teams, where a Judge will impose their decision on you.
Your joint Solicitor can then help you with the paperwork you need to finalise your divorce and implement your children and financial agreements.
We have a new service called 'Together We Part' where you will find further information on the process.

What are the advantages of appointing one lawyer and can you use one solicitor for both parties?
Due to the emotions involved in a divorce, it's unsurprising that so many divorces result in conflict.
If you and your spouse wish to sort out matters regarding your children and finances amicably, then appointing one Lawyer will help you to do so.
Not all couples and matters are suited for the ‘One Couple, One Lawyer’ approach, but for most there are significant advantages which include:
- The process will be concluded much quicker than going to Court
- You are far more likely to reach a mutually acceptable settlement
- You avoid the distress and upset associated with Court proceedings
- You will emerge from the process with a settlement you can both live with, so you can move on with your lives
- Your experience will be better for you, your children and your wider family
No divorce settlement can give each party exactly what they want and some compromise is inevitable. However, a mutual agreement between parties is a much better option than a Judge deciding who gets what.
Our Divorce Lawyers understand that every divorce is different and therefore requires a unique approach. We will listen to your specific circumstances, learn what you wish to achieve and then support both parties in achieving an amicable separation.
What other options are available?
If the ‘One Couple, One Lawyer’ service is not suitable for you, then our Divorce Lawyers will find a bespoke solution to help you.
An option that is similar to the ‘One Couple, One Lawyer’ service, is the ‘Collaborative Divorce’ process which encourages parties to work together to iron out the details of their separation, without Court hearings.
However, instead of sharing one Solicitor each, both parties appoint an individual Solicitor who will represent their interests within the four-way meetings.
If a settlement is reached, the appointed Solicitors will draft any necessary documents to obtain an agreed Financial Court Order.
During the collaborative process, parties can obtain advice from professionals from other fields, including, financial advisers, valuers and surveyors, accountants and family consultants.
Regardless of the dispute resolution method used, our Divorce Lawyers will use their expertise to tailor an approach that suits your long term aims and objectives.
