Pensions are a complicated asset when considering financial settlement. When legislation changed to allow ‘pension sharing’ on divorce, dealing with pensions during the divorce process became more complicated.

During a separation and subsequent divorce, clients will often reach an amicable agreement about financial matters or simply have no financial assets to be considered.

Following parental separation, unfortunately sometimes the parties are unable to agree amicable arrangements concerning the children from the relationship and may need the court’s assistance. Parents can apply to the court for a Child Arrangement Order to define arrangements.

Under the law currently in effect, to obtain a divorce without alleging fault in England and Wales, a couple has to wait until they had been separated for 2 years. However, many people allege fault-based facts of adultery or unreasonable behaviour to get divorced more quickly. This increases the bitterness between parties and makes dealing with other arrangements more difficult.

I left school at 16, semi-literate and after 7 years I secured a job, which in reality was more by luck than judgement. It was with a firm of solicitors in London’s East End as an outdoor clerk (which was actually an unqualified post boy).
